Meeting minutes are available from last week's General PAC Meeting held on Monday, April 3. We had a great talk on diabetes and discussed how the Clothing Drive will support both Queen Mary PAC and Diabetes Canada (previously known as the Canadian Diabetes Association).
Keep an eye out for an email announcement about Green Team activities coming up next week to celebrate Earth Week. Earth Day is on Saturday, April 22!
PAC is hosting a clothing drive to support ongoing activities this spring. Collection bins arrived earlier this week and our generous community is already filling them!
Let's keep collecting - bring what you can and we will do the rest to get it to our fundraising partner. A PDF flyer can be found here; feel free to share it!
Save the date! The annual Community Garage Sale is coming! We encourage Queen Mary families to participate, but this event will be advertised and open to the general public too.
If you don't have enough goods to use a table for the full time slot, consider partnering with another family or donate your goods to PAC. All proceeds from the PAC sales table will support Queen Mary students.
A PDF of the flyer can be found here.
Our annual Hanging Basket fundraiser returns this month, April 7-28!
Hardcopy information and order forms are being sent home today; if your copy doesn't make it home then click here to download.
These baskets will arrive for pick up on May 11, just in time for Mother's Day. Please consider buying some for yourself too, or asking co-workers and neighbours to support us. The money raised will help fund this year's Family BBQ in June.
Also don't forget to visit our special page with pictures of the lovely baskets!
After a break in March, our next General PAC Meeting is set for Monday, April 3. We have lots of event announcements, so don't miss out! Download a PDF copy of the meeting notice here.
The return to school safety blitz is to create school zone safety awareness. The Police, By-law officers, City of North Vancouver staff, ICBC and HASTe will be coming to talk to parents, students and drivers within the school zone about:
Thank you to the students and families who participated in the “Think of Me” campaign to remind drivers to slow down and don’t drive distracted in school zones.
Join in the festivities at the front of the school on Monday, March 27 after school!
It is finally here, the minutes for our General Meeting that took place on Monday, February 20. Thanks for being patient, and enjoy the read. Lots of good information about the new not-for-profit Quest Market in Lower Lonsdale!
Visit Quest's website to learn more about accessing their affordable food; the client referral form can be found here. Because the market is not open to the public, you must be referred (see form for valid referral agencies) to get a membership card. If you wait until after Spring Break, teachers and Principal/Vice Principal at Queen Mary can refer you!
Queen Mary PAC will be taking a break too, with maybe some occasional Facebook posts ("Like" us to stay current!). There will be no weekly event emails but you can still contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Lastly, don't forget that the deadline to order for Fun Lunch is Wednesday, March 22; Pizza & Popsicle Day is March 29.
For two weeks, Presentation House Gallery transformed into Gallery School, as part of an educational program designed in partnership with Beyond the Classroom and teachers Jenny Thayer and Kathryn Larsen.
Given behind-the-scenes access to this storied cultural institution, Queen Mary Elementary students learned about art-making, curation, local history from staff and invited speakers. For this hands-on immersion, they used the gallery as a classroom and studio from which to respond with writing and drawing. On their final day, they visited the site of the new Polygon Gallery on the North Vancouver waterfront where Director/Curator Reid Shier challenged the students to design an art gallery of their own.
The students' architectural drawings and models will be featured at the Presentation House Gallery this weekend on March 4 & 5 at 12:00-5:00 pm during the North Shore Art Crawl. Don't miss out!
