Rain or shine!
The Queen Mary Green Team has special morning activities for Walk & Wheel Week! They will be set up outside the school with guests, games, and giveaways. This is a good a reason as any to try leaving the car at home and get some of the great benefits of walking to school with your student.
Rain or shine!
Did you know that we partner with COBS at Lonsdale Quay? Through their Dough Raiser program, 5% of every purchase made by Queen Mary families come back to PAC. All you need to do is mention that you are with Queen Mary when buying your goodies. Now that's a sweet way to help out!
This year, the 2016 Great British Columbia Shakeout takes place October 20 at 10:20am. Everywhere, people will practice how to "Drop, Cover, and Hold On" during this drill. Participating is a great way for your family to get prepared to survive and recover from an earthquake - wherever you live, work, or travel.
Part of being prepared is having an emergency kit! Queen Mary PAC has partnered with Life472 to offer kits for which part of the sales will go directly back to our school. Orders are due by Oct 20, with items delivered to school on Nov 9. Here is a PDF of the flyer (please pass along to friends and family!), as well the order form. We encourage online ordering, otherwise order forms and payment should be returned to the school office.
We welcome all parents/guardians of Queen Mary students to attend our first General PAC Meeting of the year on Monday, Oct 3 at 6:30-8:00pm in the school library.
Come to meet other parents, hear from school administrators, learn about PAC and how fundraising monies will be spent this year. On Oct 3, there will be a guest to speak about emergency prep kits.
General PAC Meetings are held the first Monday of the month (except for December), so mark your calendar and feel free to come when you can. Free child-minding and light refreshment is always provided.
If you can not attend meetings, you can still take an active role by volunteering for specific events or tasks. Just send us a note at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Did you know that there is a Coffee Morning on the 4th Tuesday of each month? This event is hosted by North Shore Neighbourhood House and Queen Mary PAC. We invite parents/guardians to come by for a coffee and light snack in the school library. Come by to take a minute to meet other people or chat with one of our community partners.
Our first Coffee Morning of the year is this Tuesday, Sept 27. See you then!
Don't forget, our first Fun Lunch of the year is next week! To participate, orders must be in by midnight this Wednesday Sept 21. We are featuring Flying Wedge Pizza and MaxFrut bars.
If you are new to Fun Lunch, visit this page for more information.
PAC is always trying new things and this one is a bit different: a Direct Donation Drive. This is when we appeal to our parents to consider providing financial support to PAC instead of volunteering your time or buying another hanging basket.
The flyers went home today - we hope you are receptive and willing to give!
New this year, PAC is partnering with the grocery delivery service SPUD. Whether you're an existing Spud customer or want to become a new SPUD customer, you can order a produce box as often as you like to support Queen Mary. Your order will be delivered directly to your home or office. Pretty handy at the busy start of the year!
There are many other grocery items available so you can get a lot of other shopping done too. Just remember that 25% of the sale of only produce boxes will return to PAC. Items that count towards fundraisig can be viewed directly by going here.

If the first week back to school hasn't convinced you to leave the car at home yet, here's another reason:
The City of North Vancouver has launched a "You Are Awesome" campaign to reward students using active modes of transportation. The Queen Mary Green Team will participate by rewarding students seen walking, cycling or scooting to our school. Such students will receive a rec centre pass for drop in swim or skate. How great is that?!
Our first awardee was Lyla (center) - she bikes 20 min to/from school every day!
At the end of last year, PAC announced the end of the weekly Fun Lunch program. We are able to offer it once a month until such time there are more resources to run it more often. For this year, PAC will offer a "Pizza & Popsicle" Day only on the last Wednesday of each month. Ordering is now open for the first lunch on Sept 28.
Fun Lunch brochures went home today, and you may also visit the Fun Lunch page for more information. Happy eating!
